Have you ever sat in a giant room full of strangers wondering if you’d ever be a social butterfly? Walking from crowd to crowd chatting it up and showing everyone what a great personality you have? Maybe you do well with small crowds, but what if you had to stand up and give a toast or speech to this sea of strangers or authority figures? Could you do it? If you’re like me, you’re probably already getting tense just imagining it.
Being confident is a multifaceted issue for so many of us. Stemming from our upbringing, how we feel about our appearance or other irrational thoughts and ideas we may have about ourselves or others.
But I’m here to tell you that that kind of self-confidence is not limited to a certain type of people. You too have deep within you, the ability to score that promotion, win the tournament, or go on that blind date.
Here’s how you can pull out that confidence that lies within all of us and start making your mark today.
Turn inward for a moment and sit and think about what it is you want to achieve why this is your goal. How you’ll feel once you achieve it and why you have been unable to do it thus far successfully. Examining what is holding us back is an excellent way to start picking away at a resolution.Examining what is holding us back is an excellent way to start picking away at a resolution. - @StefaniaViscusi Click To Tweet
Silencing the voices in our minds to listen to what’s going on can be challenging. Meditation and other “quiet time” practices can help uncovering those situations that created a crossroads with our self-confidence. Perhaps unfavorable outcomes and situations in the past created a fear or block that you don’t yet realize exists. You must get to the bottom of this to be able to move forward.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help
While finding confidence is very much a personal journey, it is also one that you don’t have to do alone. Think for a minute about that celebrity or that coworker who got their promotion — what was it about their situation that allows them to achieve their goals. If possible find some time to talk to these types of people, learn more about them and what tactics they use to overcome insecurities. Mirroring some of these behaviors can help you to also move toward your goals.
Pulling out the good stuff
One of the most important steps in the journey to becoming confident is to start making changes right now. If you’ve concluded that you’ll need to take some extra certification courses to feel confident enough to go in and ask for a promotion, then it’s time to start putting those plans in motion. Find out when the next classes will be available and sign up. If you know that feeling physically unmotivated and sluggish is a major source of your displeasure, start looking at ways to incorporate healthy habits and form new lifelong ways to be healthy. A healthy body promotes a strong mind, and when you have a strong mind, you’ll feel indestructible.
