Have you ever tried guided meditation?

When I first did, I giggled the whole time. It took, I think, 10+ times to finally feel comfortable. Do you remember your first experience? Wait, let’s start with the basics.. what is guided meditation?

What is it?

Meditation: thinking deeply or focus one’s mind for a period of time

Guided Meditation: meditating in response to the guidance provided by a someone.

Do you ever find it difficult to sit and meditate? Guided meditation is a different type of meditation where you listen to someone’s voice as they take you on a journey that you go on with them – experiencing different sights, smells, and feelings. It uses words and images to move your focus away from stress, worry, or pain and onto your inner being, strength, and healing.

Why? Are there benefits?


When you practice guided imagery or guided meditation, you learn to use your imagination. Once you learn how to use your imagination, you can then practice changing your focus to the imagination, creating the state of feelings that you want for yourself. If you can practice guided meditations, you’ll begin linking certain images in your mind with feelings.

There are many benefits that come with the practice of guided meditation:

  • Grow your imagination muscle
  • Create your own state of being
  • Feel less nervous/anxious
  • Reduce stress levels (physically, mentally, and emotionally)
  • Achieve an academic or athletic achievement
  • Overcome traumas or triggers
  • Pain management
  • It’s a mood booster
  • Regulates heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, hormone imbalances, breathing + oxygen rates
  • Reduces chest pain (angina), high blood glucose, headaches, and breathing problems
  • Helps with digestive issues
